With the new year comes new possibilities and the Boston Celtics could opt to shake things up a bit by putting a few specific players on the trade block.

Happy New Year’s Boston Celtics fans!

After such a horrid year that was 2020, we come into 2021 with overflowing amounts of hope and the real possibility of seeing the shamrocks once again contend for banner No. 18.

Unfortunately, the Cs find themselves off to a disappointing start, consisting of a last-second loss to the Indiana Pacers and full-out demolition at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets.

Should this up and down stretch of the season continue, General Manager Danny Ainge could decide that this roster as currently constructed is not good enough to compete for a championship and, thus, could look to make a few trades in an effort to bolster the talent pool.

In order to make moves, however, the Celtics will likely have to wind up parting ways with one or more of their players. Depending on what kind of deal Ainge finds himself looking for, the price it could take to land a particular player will vary significantly.

Should they wish to bring on a simple role player, perhaps just a role player in return is all that would be needed. However, should they wish for a star, it will likely cost them one of their key core players.

While we love all those that you will see mentioned on this list, from a completely objective standpoint, we believe there are 3 specific players on the Cs who could realistically find themselves on the trade block in 2021:

Boston Celtics player No. 1) Daniel Theis

Through four years of action, Daniel Theis has proven himself to be one of the best bargains, not just on the Boston Celtics, but in the NBA.

Last season, the German-born baller posted career highs of 9.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game on 57 percent shooting from the floor and 33 percent shooting from the floor.

Proving to be one of the best defenders in the league, Theis found himself finishing second behind only 2x NBA Defensive Player of the Year and 4x NBA All-Defensive First Team selection, Rudy Gobert, in defensive real plus-minus.

With all this in mind, you may be perplexed as to why the 28-year-old finds himself on this hypothetical trade block list.

Well, with the fact that they have both Robert Williams III and Tristan Thompson in tow, should the C’s front office wish to better fill out their roster elsewhere, they could afford to part ways with a guy like Theis who, come this offseason, will likely command a pretty penny and, in theory, could price his way out of Boston.

Instead of potentially losing him for nothing to unrestricted free agency, Danny Ainge and co. could flip him for assets that better complement the team’s current roster. Perhaps a sharpshooter like Evan Fournier might make the Celtics budge on moving on from Theis.
