Former Boston Celtics MVP candidate Isaiah Thomas tweeted out in support of the Boston Globe’s recent idea to reunite the former All-NBAer with the Cs.

Isaiah Thomas has not been in the NBA since before the pandemic, which seems like several lifetimes ago at this point. Countless times since the world paused, IT has hinted that he’d be interested in returning to any team that gives him a call–but it isn’t a stretch to think he would love to return to the team he thrived on the most: the Boston Celtics.

Sure, things did not end well, even if it seemed like things did. Thomas was due for a massive contract extension after the 2017-18 season, but instead of taking back his post as the face of the franchise, he had to be part of a failed LeBron James-Cavaliers veteran experiment (that also included Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade…what a weird team that existed) before being sent to the Los Angeles Lakers to be Lonzo Ball’s understudy.

It’s quite honestly smile-inducing that Thomas has no ill-will towards Danny Ainge and co. Then again, he just wants to contribute at this point.

Coincidentally, the Celtics need contributors at this point. They are not scoring enough, particularly the second unit. As Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe recently pointed out, a return to the team could be mutually beneficial.

Isaiah Thomas apparently doesn’t disagree:

IT will never miss out on a chance to endorse his own candidacy to be on one of the league’s 30 rosters. He proved in spurts with the Washington Wizards last year that he can still produce in spurts.

The fit is clean in Beantown, and the Houdini believes it always has been.

A new start for Thomas back in 2021 is the comeback story this nation needs.
