Yesterday was a sad day, as it was announced that Boston Celtics legend K.C. Jones had passed away at the age of 88.

Right before the Boston Celtics hosted the Brooklyn Nets on a fanless Christmas Day affair, news broke that former NBA Champion with the Cs, and an overall great man in K.C. Jones passed away at the age of 88.

His life is one that will be marked by the legendary achievements he was able to accomplish alongside one of the game’s greatest players, Bill Russell.

The titles the pair won together makeup almost half the total banners currently providing the backdrop for camera angles in lieu of a passionate sea of green and white in the T.D. Garden. Boston’s winning legacy was largely built on teams Jones played on.

Oh, the Houdini would like to add that Jones coached the team to two championships as well. It is not an understatement to say that he is one of the most important figures in the history of the franchise.

This is a loss that will be felt across the entire league.

Jones was not merely a Boston Celtics legend, though merely feels wrong to use given the massive legacy he leaves behind. At the University of San Francisco, he won two titles alongside Russell, which makes their winning legacies playing together in Beantown even more special.

Quite frankly, it was heartbreaking to see Russell’s tweet, announcing that Jones had passed away:

The world will fondly remember a champion on and off the hardwood. RIP.
