The Boston Celtics have officially been added to the list of preferred destinations for James Harden.

Boston Celtics fans, this is not a drill. James Harden has added the Cs as a preferred trade destination:

The Houdini has long covered the idea of Harden in green and white, just as we do with many prospective free agents and trade targets. Given the fact that Danny Ainge has passed up on several superstars before, what happens next isn’t immediately clear.

He could well decide that all of the drama that has come out about the 3x reigning scoring champion is not worth the trouble of adding an All-NBA guard who has led the Rockets to the postseason every single season he has donned the uniform.

That would be understandable. Rumors swirled that Jaylen Brown could be included in a deal, and that is a non-starter for us if we’ve ever seen one. In my opinion (not Mark’s, not anyone else’s, come crucify me and me only, trolls) Brown could wind up having a more successful career than Harden’s.

It isn’t a stretch to say he’s already a superior defender. While he may never be the dominant scorer the “Beard” is, and he may never function as an offensive fulcrum the way Harden does, Brown could lead his team to more success than Harden has ever done in H-town.

Now, if Brown isn’t included?

Then we’re talking.

Any non-Brown/Tatum asset is worth giving up for James Harden. If Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, or Daniel Theis need to go, send them. The 2019 draft class shouldn’t be safe either. Hell, if Payton Pritchard impressed enough in his debut then sell high on the rookie.

Harden is worth adding for the right price. The right price does not include Brown or Tatum.
