Boston Celtics: 3 trades for Carsen Edwards-Semi Ojeleye package
Why the Boston Celtics do it
I have repeatedly tried to come up with ways for the Boston Celtics to acquire P.J. Tucker from the Houston Rockets this offseason. The fit in the Cs lineup is perfect, with the 35-year-old being capable of picking up all of the difficult defensive assignments assigned to Jayson Tatum.
His age would normally be a non-fit with the Cs core, which has been young since the Big 3 era ended seven years ago. That said, veterans who have been deep in the trenches in the postseason bring intangible value. Tucker has that in spades, having gone toe-to-toe with the dynastic Golden State Warriors of the past five years.
Danuel House is a nice addition considering his 3-point proficiency and physicality as a six-foot-seven wing.
Why the Houston Rockets do it
Houston is still trying to build a big man rotation after ditching the concept altogether in 2019-20. It isn’t easy to start from scratch, but the team did well enough to sign Christian Wood and nab DeMarcus Cousins for the veteran’s minimum.
That said, Daniel Theis would provide another stable body in the rotation. Semi Ojeleye and Carsen Edwards could probably get more burn in Houston than in Boston, and the second-round picks help aid the team’s potentially long rebuild.
