Boston Celtics takeaway No. 4) Kemba Walker will be missed

We all knew this would be the case, but Tuesday’s outing was an unfriendly reminder of how important a healthy Kemba Walker is for this championship aspiring Boston Celtics squad.

The man known as “Cardiac” has made a name for himself as one of the most lethal scorers in this league.

Last season, during his first year with the shamrocks, the point guard posted one of his most efficient scoring campaigns of his career, as he averaged 20.4 points on 43 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent shooting from deep.

Not only was his presence missed in regard to his shot creation — something that half the team seemingly seemed inept at doing in game one — but, also, in helping his star teammates in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown get less attention from an opposing defense, thus creating easier scoring opportunities.

On the night, the ‘Jays’ went for a combined 15 points on a mere 21 percent shooting from the field and 11 percent shooting from deep.

While this was just a preseason matchup and luckily didn’t count towards anything, this production is something that will not help translate into winning basketball.

Far too often did we see Tatum drive into a clogged lane and Brown set up for contested jumpers.

A scoring standout like Kemba Walker eases things up for others on offense. Without him, it just makes a defense’s job a bit easier to maintain the C’s offense.

For the first month of the season, his presence will be missed.
