Boston Celtics: 3 fillers for Tristan Thompson’s minutes on opening night
By Mark Nilon
The Boston Celtics realistically could be without Tristan Thompson for opening night of the regular season. With this, they’ll need to think up ways of how to replace him.
The Boston Celtics come into the 2020-21 season reletively disheveled, and recent news suggests their start to the year could be in need of a bit more patchwork, as newly signed center Tristan Thompson‘s status (hamstring) for opening night is currently uncertain according to Brad Stevens.
"“He’s not been in any part of practice yet. He’s done our pre-practice … very light, simulated reads work on both ends. So that’s it,” said Stevens. “He hasn’t played in a long time. He didn’t play in the bubble, so there will be a ramp-up period for him whenever he is able to go live in practice, and I’m assuming it won’t be just one of those situations where you’re available one day and you get a good practice in and you can play. “I think it’ll be a little more than that. I don’t know what that means with regard to December 23rd. Every day that passes I’d say that becomes more unlikely.”"
This comes on the heels of the news that broke recently that the team’s All-Star point guard Kemba Walker will also not be available for their December 23rd tip-off.
With two key players out to start the season, coach Stevens is in for a challenging time to figure out how to mitigate their losses within the rotation by finding replacements to fill and take on the available minutes in the rotation
Today, we present to you 3 ways the Cs could go about replacing Thompson’s minutes distribution within the lineup should he actually wind up missing opening day (and perhaps beyond):
