Boston Celtics: The 4 biggest bargains on the C’s roster
By Mark Nilon
Bargain player No. 3) Daniel Theis — $5 million
Look, did we want Myles Turner this offseason?
Yes!
That said, this doesn’t take away from the fact that we believe the current starting center for the Boston Celtics, Daniel Theis, is a sound talent for the role on one of the best contracts for such a position in the entire NBA, especially considering what he delivers to the team on a nightly basis.
Last season, the German-born baller posted career highs of 9.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game on 57 percent shooting from the floor and 33 percent shooting from the floor.
Proving to be one of the best defenders in the league last season, Theis found himself finishing second behind just 2x NBA Defensive Player of the Year and 4x NBA All-Defensive First Team selection, Rudy Gobert, in defensive real plus-minus and ahead of the likes of LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, and Marc Gasol.
Now look, do w believe he was somewhat overpowered this past postseason by the likes of Joel Embiid, Serge Ibaka/ Gasol, and Adebayo? Sure.
That said, even with this fact, there’s no denying that at his current salary Daniel Theis is, not just one of the best bargains on the Celtics but, frankly, the entire league.
