Surprise breakout candidate for the Boston Celtics No. 3) Robert Williams III

It seems like every time a new season comes around, the C’s fanbase is shouting from the rooftops about how Robert Williams III will have a breakout season.

Since being selected 27th overall back in the 2018 NBA Draft, Boston Celtics faithful have been on the edge of their seats waiting to see the athletic specimen known as “Time Lord” put it all together and convert into the answer at center that the franchise could desperately use.

Now, as he heads into the final guaranteed year of his rookie-scale contract, it would only stand to benefit the 23-year-old to have a career year in an effort to have his fourth-year option picked up by the franchise.

Though the presence of Tristan Thompson takes away some of the ease it could take for Williams to achieve such a breakout, with his sights set on another payday with the franchise, he’ll likely be fully focused and try to capitalize on every opportunity he gets.

If the bubble was any indicator, a fully healthy Robert Williams III could finally prove to be a revelation for the Celtics.

During last season’s seeding games, while playing in 10.9 minutes a night the sophomore big posted solid averages of 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game on 85 percent shooting from the floor and a box plus-minus of +29.4.

During the postseason, he continued his solid level of play, averaging 7.8 points, five boards, and just shy of a block on an earth-shattering 93.8 percent shooting from the floor.

Again, being that next season will be determined by the front office — team option –, now is the time for Williams to make the most of every opportunity he is given in hopes of having the final year of his rookie deal picked up.

The Houdini believes this is the year he finally proves why so many Boston Celtics fans have stuck behind him since coming to Beantown.
