The Boston Celtics have a roster spot left and could clear up a few more with a trade. The Houdini thinks the Cs should pursue these 3 veterans, and steer clear of these other 3.

The offseason has almost concluded, and training camp will be in session this time next week. In fact, exactly a week from now, the Boston Celtics will be facing the Philadelphia 76ers in the first of only two preseason games this offseason.

The true gem of a preseason game will be the C’s exhibition against the Brooklyn Nets at the TD Garden. In-person attendance or not, that is an unbelievable achievement for us to be even talking about that. The new normal NBA season should be just as good as a “normal” season.

Anyway, regarding training camp, there is still some time for Danny Ainge and the Celtics front office to tinker with the roster. As it stands currently, the team has nineteen players invited to training camp.

That includes roster spot long-shots Amile Jefferson and second-round pick Yam Madar. Whether or not they make the roster is anyone’s guess, especially with fewer preseason games and a generally shorter preseason to judge them by.

It is probably unlikely for the team to find a spot for either of them, but the point of the preseason is to find the potential diamond in the rough that could change the season. The Los Angeles Lakers arguably got that last offseason with Dwight Howard, and the Portland Trailblazers found that with Carmelo Anthony as the season had already progressed.
