With news that the Boston Celtics will not have their G-League affiliate Maine Red Claws participate in the planned Atlanta bubble, the Houdini thinks these five G-Leaguers should get a chance to make the roster.

Count the Houdini in as taken aback by the news that the Boston Celtics were the first NBA franchise to pull their G-League affiliate Maine Red Claws out of the G-League’s upcoming planned bubble in Atlanta:

"The Maine Red Claws are opting out of the expected NBA G-League bubble, sources told The Athletic. The G-League does not yet have plans for a second phase of the season, so the team expect to punt on the season unless there are further developments."

With this, the first thought to mind is: what about those prospects in the Celtics organization that now will not have access to valuable development opportunities (pending changes to the current infrastructure of the bubble)?

Here are 5 Red Claws we hope don’t get left out in the metaphorical cold up in Maine and instead get to migrate south to the slightly less harsh winter of Massachusetts:

Bryce Brown

Former Hardwood Houdini contributor and resident Bryce Brown enthusiast Cam Neisler put his 2019-20 season with the Maine Red Claws into pretty astounding perspective:

"In 34 games with the Red Claws, the 6’3″ guard averaged 16 points per game on 44 percent shooting, nearly identical to what he produced at Auburn. Yeah, he tore it up in Maine. The 3-point shooting is what sticks out the most. Brown shot 42 percent from deep this year for Maine on 8.7 attempts a game, almost identical to his numbers at Auburn, which is just unreal. To put that into perspective, take a guess as to what NBA player has the *exact same* three-point shooting numbers as Brown this season. I’ll give you a clue. It’s a player that 99 percent of Boston Celtics fans were dying to acquire back at the Trade Deadline. If your answer was Washington’s Davis Bertans, you would be correct. Crazy, right?"

Brown could have been added to the team’s roster before the restart, but Danny Ainge got cold feet in switching up the roster. Funny enough, the team reached the conference finals and came within two games of the NBA Finals but still gutted the team with trades this offseason. Perhaps he can have a mulligan and bring the bouncy former Auburn Tiger into the mix now before this unpredictable season begins.
