Boston Celtics: 3 Aaron Gordon trades this offseason
Why the Boston Celtics do it
This deal adds two potential starters and also scratches a long-time itch of Boston Celtics fans to acquire Myles Turner. Of course, rumors coming out that Danny Ainge could have had Turner in a sign-and-trade with Indiana greatly upset a large portion of the fanbase after the team came away with “nothing” in the eventual sign-and-trade that did go down.
Of course, those air quotes indicate the Cs didn’t actually come up empty-handed, instead creating a $28.5 million trade exception. Either way, ending up with Turner would be a satisfying end to the offseason.
Why the Orlando Magic do it
This deal lands the Magic two dynamite scorers in Walker and T.J. Warren, plus a starting-caliber center in Daniel Theis. While it is unrealistic to expect the 23+ points per game Walker was averaging when Walker was last hooked up with Steve Clifford, and it is most certainly absurd to expect Warren to average the 31 points per game he was averaging during the seeding games, the duo would immediately spruce up the offense with their athleticism.
Theis could start or slot in as Mo Bamba’s backup.
Why the Indiana Pacers do it
Call the Houdini crazy, but I believe Nikola Vucevic is the perfect third star to go along with the Malcolm Brogdon-Domantas Sabonis budding duo. His floor-spacing makes him positionally copasetic with Sabonis while his rebounding should allow Brogdon and Victor Oladipo to fire away with impunity.
