Semi Ojeleye

The next domino to fall–if there seemingly has to be on in the first place–is Semi Ojeleye. Based on the makeup of the roster, he is the most replaceable player, and also the guy whose departure makes the most sense for a number of reasons.

First and foremost is his tenure. While having players who have been with the team for a long time is always the goal, just like having a low employee turnover is the goal for any given company, having a player stick on a roster without contributing much to winning is counterintuitive.

Ojeleye has made few strides as a pro in his three seasons in green and white so far, so continuing to show loyalty to him doesn’t exactly make a ton of sense from a roster-building standpoint. If players had a problem with Brad Stevens showing a preference for Gordon Hayward, what is the thinking for the team continuing to employ Ojeleye through thick and thin?

As much as the Houdini appreciates the brutish big’s physical presence on a Cs roster that is known more for skill than size, the team may be better off leaning into its athleticism than continuing to employ the Louisville product.

Superior options shouldn’t be hard to find for the Boston Celtics…it won’t be as hard as it would be for Ojeleye to find his next home at least.
