Free-agent destination for Gordon Hayward No. 3) Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets actually make a lot of sense for Gordon Hayward in free agency. Subsequently, Gordon Hayward makes a lot of sense for the Charlotte Hornets as well.

Prior to his official decision to opt-out of the final year of his deal with the Boston Celtics, we posted a piece discussing 3 sign-and-trade destinations for the forward and, within the article, we mentioned the North Carolina franchise:

"Growing a small market team’s appeal is a fantastic thing for both the NBA as a whole and, of course, that respective team, for it adds more potential revenue outlets and greater opportunities to attract future talents. With Ball manning the point guard spot and Vernon Carey manning the middle, the team could use for a player with Hayward’s talents to be slotted right in the middle to better space the floor and provide better ball movement within the offense. Surrounding Ball with as much floor-pacing offensive talent as they can would be a fantastic mindset for the Hornets to have this offseason, for it would provide him with ample players to dish to and, in turn, could help showcase his distribution skills, while also clearing lanes for the shotty jump shooter to drive and finish at the rim."

Being that the two parties have had a mutual interest already in the past, with the reasoning mentioned above, I see no reason why this union wouldn’t make sense.

Quite frankly, if Gordon Hayward wants a chance to prove himself capable of being a lead-dog for a franchise once again in this league, the Charlotte Hornets makes a ton of sense.
