Why the Boston Celtics do it
The benefits of the trade with the New Orleans Pelicans would be the same here, but instead of adding a 3-point specialist in J.J. Redick, Boston would be bringing in a former Sixth Man of the Year and all-around scoring threat in Lou Williams.
Williams could take the ball out of Jayson Tatum’s hands-on offense, but the glass-half-full approach is that he can make everyone else fresher by taking over stretches of games.
Why the Oklahoma City Thunder do it
As is the case with every transaction on this list, Langford, Edwards, and a ton of first-round picks are Oklahoma City-bound. Patrick Beverly, Ivica Zubac, JaMychal Green, Vincent Poirier, and Rodney McGruder are salary filler, but Landry Shamet could be a good fit for the team moving forward in their rebuilding stage.
Why the Los Angeles Clippers do it
The current core isn’t cutting it out in Tinseltown, so the easiest thing for the Clippers to do would be to scrub the roster of any non-Kawhi Leonard or Paul George veteran. Adding a third switchable wing to the roster in Gordon Hayward would make LAC either an improved contender or an underachieving squad with three expiring swingmen on max deals.
