The Boston Celtics have been linked to numerous players this offseason who could be on the trading block. Of these proposals, there are a few the shamrocks should avoid.

Like virtually every offseason, the Boston Celtics have found themselves intertwined within the trade rumor mill seemingly as soon as their 2019-20 season came to an end back in late September.

Since their inception back in 1946, the Cs have managed to establish themselves as one of the most successful franchises in NBA history. Now, as their placement atop the list of the winningest franchises has been occupied by a second resident in the Los Angeles Lakers, the team’s front office appears set on looking for ways in which they can better position themselves to take the top spot back by trying to be the first of the two teams to attain banner number 18.

Though there are many ways in which the front office can go about this, one of the most popular activities of the offseason so far is figuring out ways Danny Ainge and co. can improve the team’s chances for a run at glory is via the trade route.

Over the past several weeks, the sports media world has had a field day concocting deals to address some of the C’s most glaring weak spots within the rotation. From superstars to mere role players, we’ve seen packages of all kind heading to Beantown.

Today, we point out 3 specific deals proposed that the Celtics should avoid at all costs:

Rumored trade Boston Celtics should avoid No. 1) Marcus Smart to the Warriors

Outside of trade rumors, the Boston Celtics have found their name attached to a reported list of teams interested in moving up in this upcoming draft.  Per The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor the Celtics are looking to trade all three of their 2020 first-round picks (14, 26, & 30) in an effort to move up further in the lottery.

With this news, acclaimed sports analyst, and widely renowned Celtics fan, Bill Simmons, suggested the deal listed above involving Marcus Smart and their lone lottery pick for Golden State’s second overall pick on Zach Lowe’s podcast, The Lowe Post. With his proposal, Simmons wrote it off as a toss-up as to which team would be getting the bigger end of the stick.

"“So Golden State calls Boston, and they say we really want Marcus Smart…we will offer the No. 2. Overall Pick for Marcus Smart and Pick No. 14. What does Boston do?”"

As my co-editor Andrew Hughes put it, we’d hope Danny Ainge hangs up the phone if he received such a call.

The heart and soul of Boston Celtics basketball, Marcus Smart is a do-it-all kind of talent that every team covets, and one that this title-contending team already has.

Why would they go about trading him away just for a higher pick in a weak draft such as this one?

2019-20 saw a career year for the 26-year-old, as he posted 12.9 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per game on his way to being selected to his second-consecutive NBA All-Defensive First Team.

Don’t get us wrong, we’re not opposed to the idea of trading Smart this offseason should the right offer present itself. With that said, this proposal from Simmons certainly is not it.
