The Houdini continues in our search of the perfect trade partner with the Boston Celtics for swingman Gordon Hayward. Today, we explore deals with the Chicago Bulls.

All offseason, we here at Hardwood Houdini have exercised our right to party. While some of you may not associate the idea of that with crafting mock trades that would send Gordon Hayward off of the Boston Celtics…we do.

Today, the idea is landing Hayward on a team with a new regime in the Chicago Bulls:

Why the Boston Celtics do it

While many may see Zach LaVine as a defensive liability, he did strive to improve in 2019-20. His offensive game has never been in question, though, and he upped the ante this past season scoring over 25 points per game on 38 percent 3-point efficiency on an eye-popping eight long-ball attempts per game.

Thaddeus Young’s non-guaranteed 2021-22 season could be a useful tool for the Boston Celtics at the trade deadline for next summer, but he could still score the ball at an efficient clip (50 percent shooting from the field, 35 percent shooting from the 3-point line).

Why the Chicago Bulls do it

With Chicago in the midst of a massive regime change–one ownership hopes could facilitate a culture change as well–the Bulls could stand to take on the final year of Gordon Hayward’s deal. The last time he was in a contract year, he was an All-Star. That, of course, was before he broke his ankle on opening night in 2017.

Adding Romeo Langford and the C’s three first-round picks in the 2020 NBA Draft is the gravy needed to get the deal done.
