The Boston Celtics could look to get involved in a deal for Spencer Dinwiddie. Here are 3 scenarios that also include the C’s most likely trade chip, Gordon Hayward.

It has seemed for a long time that Spencer Dinwiddie has wanted off of the Brooklyn Nets–a strange thought considering he was the main culprit in recruiting Kyrie Irving away from the Boston Celtics in 2019.

Now, it appears as though the Colorado product could be had in a deal and is actively wanted by several Western Conference contenders:

"Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has reportedly drawn trade interest from multiple Western Conference teams. Ian Begley of SNY.tv reported the interest, though it’s unclear where the Nets stand on potentially trading Dinwiddie. The veteran guard is an interesting trade piece but would probably be part of a package the Nets compile for a third star next to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving rather than being sent away by himself."

If contenders out west want the Bitcoin-investing super-sixth man, so should teams on the Atlantic coast as well. With that, the Houdini looks to kill two birds with one stone: get Dinwiddie off the Nets, and trade Gordon Hayward off the Boston Celtics:

Why the Boston Celtics do it

Hayward is likely to either opt-out of his deal or request a trade. He can pursue an opt-in and trade in order to be shipped to the right situation…ideally a winning one.

Maximizing his return in a straight swap with Brooklyn would result in the form of a new starting center in Jarrett Allen, a steady bench combo defender at the forward spots in Taurean Prince, and a new backup floor general who is pliable enough to play alongside Kemba Walker and the starters in Spencer Dinwiddie. Giving up two picks and just one first-rounder is a necessary sweetener.

Why the Brooklyn Nets do it

While being the fourth option in the Celtics offense may not be ideal, being the third option in the largest market in the country could allow him to grow his star while also increasing his national exposure.

The Nets would add a player who might not have gelled well with Kyrie Irving the first go-around in Beantown, but could excel under the tutelage of Steve Nash in a contract year.
