Boston Celtics trade idea No. 2) Cs get the center they should have drafted

Next up on the docket, we discuss an idea actually concocted by Bleacher Report a few months back in an article entitled 1 Course-Changing Trade Every NBA Team Could Actually Make.

Here, we see the Boston Celtics bringing on the 2019-20 NBA All-Rookie First Team selection in Brandon Clarke who, quite frankly, they should have had to begin with.

During last year’s draft, Beantown also was in possession of the 14th overall pick on the night. Despite the fact that they clearly could have used for an upgrade at the pivot, as they were in the process of losing Al Horford and had gone on to trade Aron Baynes that very night, Danny Ainge opted to use the selection on the injury-riddled Indiana star wing, Romeo Langford.

Clarke would go on to be selected seven slots later and, well, here we are.

One saw averages of 2.5 points and 1.3 rebounds on 35 percent shooting from the field and numerous appearances with Boston’s G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, while the other posted impressive averages of 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and just shy of a block per game on 62 percent shooting from the floor and 36 percent shooting from deep.

Now, while the 6-8 talent did wind up proving to be a fantastic pickup for Memphis during the last draft, in the grand scheme of things he will likely not amount to much more than a great backup big man while the likes of Jaren Jackson Jr. is in town.

Should the Grizzlies wish to better fill the roster in areas of need, potentially bringing on the likes of a young former lottery wing in Langford and the 14th overall pick in this year’s draft might be a smart move for the franchise.

In turn, the Cs would bring aboard an insanely talented young center who spaces the floor well, plays solid defense both inside and out of that paint, and who very easily could have been brought on to the team during last year’s draft.
