Potential Boston Celtics free-agent target No. 3) Isaiah Thomas

Speaking of reunions…

The 3-time All-Star and former MVP candidate for the Boston Celtics in Isaiah Thomas has constantly found himself within the rumor-mill as being a potential MLE target for the organization this offseason.

We here at HH have constantly pounded the proverbial drum of bringing the “King of the Fourth” back to Beantown. With the Boston Globe listing his name within their latest free agency article, it would simply be a sham if we did not discuss the idea once more.

As we stated within the linked-to article above, we’ve grown tired of stating our reasonings as to why we believe I.T. would be a solid offseason addition for the Celtics so, we’re just going to blockquote some of our previous reasonings:

"Though his better days are most likely behind him, I.T. proved to still have plenty to offer an organization during his half-season stint with the Washington Wizards in 2019-20. Through 40 games — 36 starts — the point guard found himself averaging 12.2 points and 3.7 assists on 41 percent shooting from both the field and downtown. Being the need for an upgrade at backup point guard, coupled with his familiarity and proven success within a Brad Stevens system, a return to the Boston Celtics could be a true feel-good story to end off a year filled with so much turmoil and despair. Should he be willing to come back to the franchise on a team-friendly deal, I see absolutely no reason why Danny Ainge shouldn’t consider the idea of a reunion himself. From a sixth to an eighth man role off the bench, having a player of I.T.’s caliber in the rotation would likely only help Boston’s pursuit of glory."

Verdict: Pursue
