Boston Celtics: Pass or pursue on 7 marquee free agents

The Boston Celtics have once again found themselves intertwined with some of the league’s available assets during this year’s offseason.

With the free agency period of the offseason rapidly approaching, Boston Celtics fans and media publications covering the franchise are all actively trying to figure out what paths they may choose to take.

Despite finishing with the league’s fifth-best record, reaching their third Eastern Conference Finals in four years, and coming within just two games of making it to their first NBA Finals appearance in over a decade, it’s evident that the Cs have some work to do in an effort to better position themselves for a run at glory come the 2020-21 season.

This feat can be accomplished in many different ways, such as the upcoming NBA Draft (where Boston holds 3 first-round selections), offseason trades, and, of course, free agency signings.

With that last vertical mentioned, it’s a widely know factoid that the Celtics will not possess the financial flexibility to bring on some of the top-billed talents on the open market this year like they’ve grown accustomed to doing over the past several offseasons.

Because of this, they’ll need to make the best of the mid-level exception and veteran minimum contracts should they wish to be somewhat active during free agency.

Recently, Boston Globe writer Gary Washburn penned a piece listing some low-cost talents Beantown could target this offseason entitled “Some free-agent gems the cash-strapped Celtics can afford.

Whilst reading this very well written article, it sparked a thought in the Houdini’s mind: should these players actually find themselves on Boston’s radar?
