Former Boston Celtics player team could target No. 3) Isaiah Thomas

Many of you guys over the past few months have expressed your disdain for the idea of the Boston Celtics bringing back Isaiah Thomas as both a sparkplug scorer off the bench as well as a replacement for Brad Wanamaker as the team’s backup point guard.

If he’s willing to accept the MLE or, better case scenario, the veteran minimum, we will continue to disagree with your opinions on the matter by all accounts — we still love you guys, however.

Frankly, we’re tired of writing up the same reasoning as to why he’d be an ideal option behind Walker at the one. Because of this, below we’ve simply quoted a piece from last month discussing how Thomas may have been hinting at an interest in a Boston Celtics reunion, and why it makes sense.

"Though his better days are most likely behind him, I.T. proved to still have plenty to offer an organization during his half-season stint with the Washington Wizards in 2019-20. Through 40 games — 36 starts — the point guard found himself averaging 12.2 points and 3.7 assists on 41 percent shooting from both the field and downtown. Being the need for an upgrade at backup point guard, coupled with his familiarity and proven success within a Brad Stevens system, a return to the Boston Celtics could be a true feel-good story to end off a year filled with so much turmoil and despair."

Should he be willing to come back to the franchise on a team-friendly deal, I see absolutely no reason why Danny Ainge shouldn’t consider the idea of a reunion himself. From a sixth to an eighth man role off the bench, having a player of I.T.’s caliber in the rotation would likely only help Boston’s pursuit of glory.
