Boston Celtics: 3 former Cs to consider targeting on inexpensive deals

Former Boston Celtics player team could target No. 1) Rajon Rondo
Of the many weak spots found within the rotation for the Boston Celtics, backup point guard is most certainly one of the most glaring areas the team must address this offseason.
While Brad Wanamaker put forth solid production during this past postseason, ultimately his services should be upgraded upon moving forward, especially with the fact that he has minimal room to grow in regard to his overall game and is already 31-years-old in just his second season.
With Kemba Walker’s knee ailments expected to linger for the remainder of his career, it’s vital to find an insurance policy should the All-Star point guard be relegated to the sideline for an extended period of time at some point in the future.
Though they may have vastly different games, what better insurance policy would there be for a championship-aspiring team with ample star-power at its disposal than a man who has won it all in a similar fashion with this same franchise back in 2008 as well as with the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers?
That man: Rajon Rondo.
Despite being in the twilight years of his career, the future Hall of Fame point guard has still proven capable of producing at a high-level for contending teams — averaged 8.9 points, 6.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals on 46 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent shooting from deep during LA’s championship run– and would be a fantastic floor general for a unit that simply seems lost without Walker running the show.
As my co-editor Andrew Hughes put it in a recent article discussing why Rondo should be considered by the Cs on the MLE, second-unit point guards have proven to be “all the rage” for the league’s most recent championship winners.
"The bar for a championship backup point guard has been set at Rondo, Fred VanVleet, and Shaun Livingston the past half-decade. Being that the Celtics have, you know, won a championship with Rondo, connecting the dots here shouldn’t be too stressful of an exercise."
