Should the Boston Celtics decide to want to add more young talent on the roster and cut their luxury tax bill significantly, here are 2 draft night trades involving Gordon Hayward the Cs can explore.

Yesterday, I brought up important points about the Boston Celtics roster when it comes to going about roster-building for the 2020-21 season:

"This offseason is a unique one for all 30 NBA franchises. Ditto for the Boston Celtics; a taxpaying team who spent big on a team they didn’t know they’d be paying such a high luxury tax bill on. The next steps need to be deliberate for Danny Ainge and co. considering what is at stake. A potential perennial winner is clearly being formed in Boston around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but the supporting pieces need to be chosen delicately in this new salary cap climate. The salaries on the roster right now tend to be exorbitant or bargains that are expiring soon set to become pricey as well. Marcus Smart’s $13 million salary could turn into something north of $20 million annually. Even Daniel Theis can see a double-digit increase in millions per year for the right price and contract length."

In the piece, I talked about Isaac Okoro having the qualities of a player Danny Ainge would pursue, perhaps looking for someone who can assume his responsibilities at a much more manageable salary than what Gordon Hayward is currently pulling ($34 million).

Today, the Houdini is going to actually piece together two draft-night deals to not only bring on Okoro, but to ease their luxury tax burden by using the team’s most expensive salary as a trade chip.
