Shooter the Boston Celtics should target at No. 14) Aaron Nesmith, Vanderbilt, F

The idea of the Boston Celtics bringing on Aaron Nesmith with the 14th overall pick is not necessarily just to address their unfortunate shooting prowess in the second unit but, frankly, the entirety of its scoring arsenal.

Despite only playing in 14 games during his sophomore season at Vanderbilt, the wing made his impact felt all over the NCAA. During his 2019-20 campaign, Nesmith put up insane scoring averages of 23 points per game and shot 51 percent from the field and 52.2 percent from downtown on 4.3 makes a game.

Finishing within the 95th percentile as a spot-up shooter and in the 100th percentile when left open, the scoring punch that the 21-year-old provided for the Commodores was irreplaceable — and this was proven when he went down in late January.

His 6-6, 213-pound frame coupled with his speed and strength makes him a solid hybrid to play both the two and three spots at the next level. Though his uninspiring 1.3 career assists averages may be of some concern for C’s fans, his scoring prowess and defensive chops may be too much to pass on for a team who could certainly use a player who can come off the bench and serve as a microwave scorer at a moment’s notice.

The concept of bringing on Aaron Nesmith to the Boston Celtics is nothing new to us here at Hardwood Houdini and, until draft night, this stance will likely be brought up on a few more occasions.
