Boston Celtics: 3 reasons to pursue Rajon Rondo with the MLE
Find someone to run crunch-time offense
As it stands, the Boston Celtics offense late in games is akin to a song by a boy band. Sure, there are moments of harmonization, but for the most part, it is a stream of guys taking their respective turns basking in the spotlight emphasizing their individual talents.
Maybe it isn’t and Backstreet is back in my head, but the Cs sure can use some organization and less hero-ball in the waning moments of important games. While Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kemba Walker are all capable–and have hit several–game-tying or game-winning shots in their careers, there isn’t a single guy in the bunch that can be seen as the guy to trust to create their own opportunity and win the game for their team.
Rondo isn’ that either. Some of you can take a deep breath. I’m not implying that, and the point is actually that he isn’t. Instead, Rondo is the caliber of player that can find the right guy at the right moment…particularly because there isn’t a one-size-fits-all kind of difference-maker on the Celtics roster.
As an added bonus, we know Walker has the ability to thrive alongside a point guard from his time beside Jeremy Lin in Charlotte. Since Kemba specifically said he wanted to learn how to win in regards to why he signed in Boston, there’d be no better teacher than a player who has been to the top of the mountain in the exact position he finds himself in as the lead floor general.
