Boston Celtics: Why Cs have best offer for Giannis…but shouldn’t use it
The Houdini has long maintained that the Boston Celtics have the best trade package for Giannis Antetokounmpo if he was on the trade block this offseason. That said, they shouldn’t use it.
The Boston Celtics have long been in the running for the top players in the league every offseason in a trade because of Danny Ainge’s ability to stock the roster with assets–as well as future assets like first-round draft picks, a delicacy Ainge has built an entire bakery on in the 2020 Draft with three choices.
What the tastiest treat of all (dessert munchies are clearly kicking in) would be is a megadeal that lands the Boston Celtics the best player potentially on the market this offseason, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Tim Bontemps of ESPN reported a few weeks ago that the Milwaukee Bucks don’t plan to trade Antetokounmpo:
"“Multiple sources have emphatically said Milwaukee will not look to trade Antetokounmpo if he passes on the extension. Instead, the Bucks will try to improve their roster and use the next year to show Antetokounmpo why he should stay."
That said, plans change rapidly in the NBA and with things looking murkier than ever for every franchise, the small-market teams will stand to lose the most in the coming years. If Milwaukee decides to try and cut its losses following Antetokounmpo’s possible edict that he wouldn’t sign a super-max extension, Boston would immediately spring to the front of the line for potential suitors.
Here’s why the Celtics have the best trade package for the “Greek Freak”…but shouldn’t use it:
