Reason why Ibaka is perfect free-agent No. 1) He plays a position of need

As stated all season long, the weakest area within the rotation for the Boston Celtics has been at center.

After losing Al Horford to free agency and Aron Baynes to a draft-night deal last offseason, the Cs believed that a combination of Daniel Theis, Robert Williams III, and recently signed bigs Enes Kanter and Vincent Poirier would be enough to mitigate the losses down low.

Now, fast forward a bit over a year later and you’ll find that while the unit showed flashes at times throughout this past campaign — especially Theis who finished second to only Rudy Gobert in Defensive Real Plus-Minus –, at the end of the day they still need some bolstering in the frontcourt if they wish to truly compete against the other dominant bigs in the Eastern Conference such as Joel Embiid, Nikola Vucevic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and, as seen in the Conference Finals, Bam Adebayo.

Since shifting to the pivot full time, Serge Ibaka has revitalized his career and, in 2019-20, was a top-10 player at the position.

Bringing him aboard, be it in a starting or reserve role, would easily be a plus at the five for the shamrocks.
