Boston Celtics: 2 multi-team Gordon Hayward trades to nab 2020 #2 draft pick
Hayward to Golden State
The second deal instead sends Hayward to the Warriors, while the Chicago Bulls join in on the trade fun, sending Lauri Markkanen to the Bay Area as well. Chicago takes on Andrew Wiggins, Marcus Smart, Eric Paschall and a pair of first-rounders from Boston in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Cs acquire the #2 pick along with Otto Porter, Thaddeus Young and Tomas Satoransky to round out the deal.
Why the Boston Celtics do it
Boston not only acquires the #2 pick with this deal, but allows Chicago to give them all of their undervalued rotational pieces in Otto Porter, Tomas Satoransky and Thaddeus Young. The team would add three playoff playable pieces in exchange for two, and get the second highest pick possible for a pair of 2020 firsts.
Why the Chicago Bulls do it
The Chicago Bulls are about to overhaul their entire team after hiring Billy Donovan to be their head coach and Arturas Karnisovas as general manager. If major changes are coming to the roster, bringing on a sure thing like Marcus Smart as well as high-ceiling prospects like Eric Paschall and Andrew Wiggins (who is still just 25) and a pair of first-round picks is far from the worst starting point.
Why the Golden State Warriors do it
Golden State bringing in Gordon Hayward and Lauri Markannen to compliment their hall-of-fame trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green would give them the best starting five in the NBA without question.
Giving up the #2 pick to get that is worth it for a team whose championship window may be closing–with the possibility of closing even more rapidly if the Splash Bros never regain their dynastic form.
