Hayward to Indiana

The first deal honors the rumors of Indiana’s interest in Gordon Hayward with a deal that also lands them Andrew Wiggins and a pair of 2021 first-rounders from both other teams in the trade. Golden State gets its hands on two game-changing guards in Malcolm Brogdon and Marcus Smart and swaps picks with Boston, who gets the #2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Myles Turner, Doug McDermott and Jeremy Lamb.

Why the Boston Celtics do it

Acquiring the #2 pick while also supplementing the second unit is the kind of deal the Cs need to make if Danny Ainge commits to building around his All-Star duo of Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum…as well as star-to-be Jaylen Brown.

Turner is an ideal floor-spacing big for the current lineup, while McDermott and Lamb make for a dependable wing platoon off the bench.

Why the Indiana Pacers do it

Indiana seems all but set to deal Victor Oladipo, so acquiring some draft picks in a separate deal while also maintaining a competitive edge in the interim with two capable do-it-all wings in Hayward and Wiggins–to a lineup buoyed by All-Star big-man Domantas Sabonis–would be the best way for the team to maintain the ability to compete or tank (if things go awry) depending on what the season calls for.

Why the Golden State Warriors do it

This deal undoubtedly makes the Golden State Warriors top contenders in the Western Conference again. Marcus Smart could slide into the Andre Iguodala role off the bench while Malcolm Brogdon’s playmaking and scoring could help elevate the ceiling of a Dubs starting lineup that should be among the league’s best again with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson fully healthy.
