Boston Celtics: 2 multi-team Gordon Hayward trades to nab 2020 #2 draft pick

The Houdini has two pivotal goals in mind for the 2020 offseason the Boston Celtics can execute: trading Gordon Hayward and acquiring the #2 pick in the NBA Draft.

This past week has revealed a lot about the Boston Celtics’ infamous Gordon Hayward situation. An oft-covered topic on this very site by yours truly, a Hayward trade seems more and more likely by the day.

Just this past week, the Indiana Pacers were linked to the Cs in a potential deal for the 2017 All-Star as CBS Sports writer Michael Kaskey-Blomain reported:

"Something to keep an eye on once we find out when NBA teams can start making trades: some within the Pacers organization continue to have interest in trading for Celtics’ Gordon Hayward, per SNY sources. It’s unknown what Boston would want in return for Hayward — or if the club is even open to moving him. Hayward, who starred at Butler, can become a free agent by opting out of the final year of his deal, worth roughly $34 million."

The Houdini responded with a pair of multi-team deals that would send Hayward to Indiana, given the interest. Today, we are going to do the same thing (at least once)…but with a twist:

Acquiring the #2 pick in the NBA Draft from the Golden State Warriors.

The Cs are a taxpaying team, and they owe Jayson Tatum quite the raise next summer given his superstar ascension in 2019-20. Their goal should be acquiring top-line talent at wholesale rates. Enter the #2 pick, something the Golden State Warriors seem willing to part with for a star.
