Rumored Boston Celtics target No. 3) Paul George

While we here at the Houdini recently had a writer concoct a trade in which the Boston Celtics land Paul George, we are most certainly not the only publication to have done so.

WEEI writer Tyler Devitte took part in such an activity himself and came up with a trade that would land the Cs both George and third-year sniper Landry Shamet.

The deal:

Celtics get: Paul George, Landry Shamet.
Clippers get: Kemba Walker, Robert Williams, two 2020  first-round picks (No. 14, No. 26).

Devitte’s reasoning read as follows:

"Who say[s] no? It’s basically one bad contract for another, with both George and Walker making upwards of $30 million per season. While George’s production might be a concern after watching him in the Clippers’ most recent postseason run, so are Walker’s knees. Danny Ainge suggested the guard wasn’t himself during the playoffs due to the ailment. The worry is that the former UConn star never will be his old self, even after an offseason."

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the idea that Devitte has with this proposal. Kemba’s knee issues are of great concern to us here at HH and, with that, we’ve discussed the possibility of potentially investing in an insurance policy at the position with one of their first-round picks in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Having said that, like was stated in the article, though Walker clearly struggled during this past postseason so, too, did George. If push came to shove, I’d much rather have an All-Star (when healthy) at the most important position in basketball over adding yet ANOTHER wing to a team that already has Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward and, heck, we can even include Marcus Smart.

Paul George is a great player, but we simply do not need any more wings on the roster, especially if it means losing our starting point guard in the process.

Verdict: Pass
