Boston Celtics: Could Isaiah Thomas tweet be hinting at Cs reunion?
By Mark Nilon
A recent cryptic tweet by Isaiah Thomas has the Houdini clamoring about the possibility of it referring to a reunion between the point guard and the Boston Celtics.
If a picture is worth a thousand words then what’s the value of a cryptic tweet from a former Boston Celtics All-Star & MVP candidate?
Since I’ve taken over as Site-Expert for Hardwood Houdini I’ve discussed the idea of former face of the franchise, Isaiah Thomas, making his way back to Beantown on numerous occasions to, one, fill in as a much-needed offensive spark-plug/ backup point guard to come off the pine and, two, to right the wrong of dealing him after all he had done for the franchise during his short stint.
While we’ve shied away from this topic as of late, for there has really not been much noise in regard to such a storyline, recently Thomas himself posted somewhat of a cryptic tweet that has us at HH clamoring over the aforementioned possibility of a reunion once more.
Now, while the message is very vague, we are most certainly not the only people theorizing that this could be a preliminary message that a return to Boston could be on the horizon. One of the commenters on the tweet went as far as to offer a ride to Thomas from “Logan airport to the Celtics facility”, should this be in reference to a signing with the franchise.
Though his better days are most likely behind him, I.T. proved to still have plenty to offer an organization during his half-season stint with the Washington Wizards in 2019-20. Through 40 games — 36 starts — the point guard found himself averaging 12.2 points and 3.7 assists on 41 percent shooting from both the field and downtown.
Being the need for an upgrade at backup point guard, coupled with his familiarity and proven success within a Brad Stevens system, a return to the Boston Celtics could be a true feel-good story to end off a year filled with so much turmoil and despair.
