Sharpshooter Boston Celtics should pursue No. 1) D.J. Augustin

D.J. Augustin fits multiple needs for this Boston Celtics squad.

Over the past several months, we have discussed the fact that the Cs should strongly consider upgrading from Brad Wanamaker at backup point guard. Being that he’s already 30-years-old and only in his second year, it’s quite apparent that the senior-citizen sophomore’s impact on the team moving forward will be relatively capped.

However, age is most certainly not the main contributor in this thought process but, rather, his lacking quickness, shot creation, and inability to properly lead an offensive unit.

Augustin, despite being two years older, has 10 more years of experience in this league, providing him the gift of veteran leadership, and has the intangibles that Wanamaker lacks.

Coming off of his second-consecutive postseason appearance with the Orlando Magic — fifth since being in the league — Augustin saw sound averages of 10.5 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game on 35 percent shooting from deep.

Possessing an impressive ability to find his teammates for solid looks at a bucket, while also creating looks for himself with possession of the rock or while working off-ball — shot 44 percent on catch and shoot attempts — Augustin’s style of play would fit Boston’s scheme beautifully and would certainly aid in their attempt to improve their weak scoring prowess off the pine come the 2020-21 campaign.
