Boston Celtics: B/R praises Tatum as building block, inexcusably snubs Brown

Bleacher Report views only one of the “Jays” on the Boston Celtics as a building block in the NBA, and the Houdini is irate.

It’s no secret that many around the association believe the Boston Celtics possess one of the most talented duos of youngsters in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Both coming off career-best 2019-20 campaigns in which they posted 23.4 and 20.3 points per game, respectively, while shooting in the high 40s from the field, the pair proved to the NBA world that they have the capabilities of properly leading this Cs team to greatness in the coming years.

Unfortunately, however, lost in the shadows of Tatum’s progressions has actually been Brown’s, which have been similar if not greater leaps from last season to now. Though it was the former who was deemed an All-Star this past year, devout followers of the organization would argue that the latter’s impact on the team is just as massive, and his statistics were similarly impressive, to the point that it’s arguable he was snubbed from an All-Star nod of his own.

Once again, it would appear Brown has been snubbed, as Bleacher Report writer Zach Buckley omitted the wing from a list that names the NBA players under 23-years-old that teams could build around.

On the plus side, the man would have had cries for his head on a spike if he did not at least include Tatum’s name on said list, which he did and his reasoning reads as follows:

"While his first half secured his initial entry into the All-Star Game, his second-half surge propelled him to near-superstar heights. More importantly, that transformation carried into the playoffs, where he was one of only three players to average 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Four-time MVP LeBron James and reigning back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo were the others.“He’s a superstar,” Kemba Walker raved after Tatum’s 29-point, 12-rebound, seven-assist effort in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. “… Special, special kid. He works hard. He wants to win. He loves playing with his teammates.”Tatum played the biggest role in the Celtics’ fourth-place finish in offensive efficiency and was a major reason why they also ranked fourth at the other end. He’s a three-level scorer, a multi-positional stopper and a rapidly improving distributor. He is, like Walker said, a full-fledged superstar at the age of 22."

Look, we can maybe get behind the idea of not adding Jaylen Brown’s name to the “sure-fire” building blocks conversation that includes the likes of Tatum, Ja Morant, and Luka Doncic, for he has not yet proven capable of successfully leading his team — but, yet again, neither has Trae Young or Zion Williamson, who both find themselves in said category, but I digress.

That said, within this same piece they discussed players that are “On the Radar but Off the List (For Now)” where, frankly, the 23-year-old should have AT LEAST made the cut. Seeing names like Jaren Jackson Jr., Michael Porter Jr., and Deandre Ayton fall into said category and NOT Brown is a complete and utter travesty.

The Houdini believes that if Brown was granted the keys to his own squad, he would flourish into a bonafide superstar and, in turn, casual fans would see what Boston Celtics fans see in him, thus finding him listed within this exact conversation he was snubbed from.

Jaylen Brown is an absolute stud. Keep sleeping on the fourth-year baller, folks!
