Win-now target for Boston Celtics No. 3) Rudy Gobert

As the trend has obviously been throughout this article, these ballers being linked to the Boston Celtics is nothing new to the media. Be it our own publications or Bleacher Report’s, the idea of Rudy Gobert donning the green and white threads is one that has been floating around for quite some time now.

The All-Star/ 2x NBA Defensive Player of the Year would easily give the Cs an obscene amount of firepower not seen residing in the frontcourt since the days of Kevin Garnett.

Like we’ve implied in the past, Boston really needs to address their center position heading into next season, especially after the way the Heat took advantage of said weakness with Bam Adebayo wreaking havoc in the Eastern Conference Finals. Unlike our last two slides that also address the pivot, however, this trade sees the Celtics acquiring a legitimate star at the position in Gobert.

Through 68 games played in 2019-20 the Frenchman put up great averages of 15.1 points, 13.5 rebounds, and two blocks a night on a career-high 69 percent shooting from the floor.

As explained in a recent article about this same hypothetical of Gobert coming to Boston:

"Voted onto his fourth straight NBA All-Defensive team while finishing third in the running for the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award, Gobert still managed to etch himself into the conversation of best defenders in the association — won the award twice before, most recently coming in 2019. Boasting the fourth-best defense in the league without a true center, adding a talent like the Stifle Tower would make this already menacing unit that much more lethal to square off against for an opposing squad, while also having little to no impact on their fourth-ranked offense. The additions of Tony Bradley and Georges Niang would essentially be just to match salaries, but would also add both depth at the center slot behind Gobert &, presumably, Robert Williams III and would potentially aid in the C’s quest to improve their second unit 3-point shooting prowess, as Niang is a career 38.7 percent shooter from deep."

Acquiring Rudy Gobert would instantly thrust the Boston Celtics into title-favorites territory and should be an idea strongly considered by the team’s front office this offseason.
