Free-agent the Boston Celtics must avoid No. 2) Tristan Thompson

Yes, I am aware of the fact that I personally advocated for the Boston Celtics to look into acquiring Tristan Thompson‘s services using the MLE this offseason in the past. That said, as time has passed I have realized the error in my ways; in my thought process.

The fact still remains that the shamrocks need to improve their center rotation moving forward should they want to improve their chances of winning a title. However, they shouldn’t just grab a player based on price and name recognition alone but, rather, fit within the rotation.

The Cs would be best suited with a defensive-minded big man who can help protect the rim and space the floor. While his defense has improved since coming into the league, Thompson does not fit the bill with either of these aforementioned qualities.

Possessing a limited offensive game, zero floor-spacing consistency (has attempted 32 3’s in his career, converting on just nine), and a career defensive box plus-minus of -1.3 the skillset he would provide the Boston Celtics would not really tilt the needle in the direction in which they wish to go.

Instead, the team should focus on acquiring players such as Jalen Smith & Onyeka Okongwu, pursuing better free-agent fits for the system such as Aron Baynes, or look into an offseason trade for Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers.

Pursuing Thompson would be a foolish move by the shamrocks and should be avoided this offseason.
