There are several players that are available this offseason that the Boston Celtics must sign at all costs if they can come cheap. Here are 3 the Houdini has in mind.

With the Los Angeles Lakers officially in position to surpass the Boston Celtics in championships for the first time in more than half of a century, this offseason is a critical one for Danny Ainge and co. After falling just short of an NBA Finals appearance, the Cs are not good enough as is, but luckily have the means to get better.

Truthfully, the most likely pathway for Boston to improve is via the NBA Draft. Then again, that’s a significant gamble to rely on to contend immediately. At picks #14, #26, and #30, there aren’t going to be guys that will step in and move the needle in 2020-21.

As we saw with the 2019 class, there is going to be a learning curve. With Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown arriving as stars, though, there should be more urgency than just finding the steal(s) of the draft this offseason.

Luckily, with the way that modern free agency works in the NBA, the Boston Celtics are attractive free-agent options even with a dearth of cap space. Owning the taxpayer’s mid-level exception, their best offer to external free agents falls short of other teams who aren’t spending so much on salary.

That said, a few million dollars doesn’t matter much when it comes to players playing to win championships. If these three players are serious about that, the Houdini wants the Cs to pursue these potential free-agent steals:
