Boston Celtics overseas target No. 3) Hollis Thompson

Technically not an international find, Hollis Thompson spent part of the 2018-19 season playing in Germany. Old analytic minds may remember him as an early archetype for the modern-day three-and-D wing.

While these teams struggled, there was a two-year stretch where the Georgetown Hoya ranked in the 90th and 86th percentile in perimeter shooting. Thompson, a primary character featured on the “Trust the Process” 76ers, never regained his shooting stroke since these two hot starts and bounced from a 10-day contract to the G-League to overseas.

Given the scarcity of wings that can shoot, it’s somewhat puzzling that he never went on to play consistent NBA minutes after the 76ers.

Thompson struggled last season with a hip injury and only played in five games with the Stockton Kings after failing to make a roster spot in training camp. While the year was a wash, there is still hope for the former Sixer.

Thompson had an efficient outing with the Northern Arizona Suns where he averaged 16.6 points on 35 percent shooting from beyond the arc during the 2018-19 season.

Like the Kings, the Boston Celtics could offer the 29-year-old stretch wing the possibility of making the team as Thompson doesn’t provide much outside of his ability to space the floor. Out of the two previously mentioned players, Thompson is by far the most removed from the NBA.

That said, if he can provide floor spacing at the wing spot, Boston should have him on their watchlist.

While Semi Ojelye and Grant Willaims, towards the end of the season, shot the ball well from beyond the arc, Thompson could provide the offense to their defense.
