Boston Celtics: 3 overseas players Cs should consider signing
By Ian Riaf
Boston Celtics overseas target No. 1) Nik Stauskas
After being traded three times in three days, Nik Stauskas found himself playing overseas last season with Spanish club Baskonia. Stauskas is only one year removed from the NBA but has dealt with nagging knee injuries and parted ways with Baskonia for rehabilitation.
Selected eighth overall in the 2014 NBA Draft out of Michigan, Stauskas bounced around, playing on five teams in five years. While he struggled to lock into a rotation spot, he may still have the ability to provide some spark plug shooting at the wing position.
He could fill a void for the Boston Celtics as they ranked 28th in bench three-point percentage and last in bench three-pointers attempted.
It seems as if every contending team in the Eastern Conference has its own version of Duncan Robinson. Whether it’s Kyle Korver, Justin Holliday, Doug McDermott, or even Furkan Korkmaz, every team needs a floor-spacing bench player to at the very least act as a decoy.
Stauskas ranked 85th in three-point gravity during the 2016-17 season on 4.5 attempts per game, as he could be this needed decoy for this Celtics bench unit.
If the medicals check out, the Cs may make a value play on the Michigan alum.
While his year-to-year shooting inconsistencies in the NBA may be something to consider, the shamrocks should be aggressive in their efforts to find a perimeter threat when bolstering their bench unit.
