Larry Nance

According to John Hollinger, the Boston Celtics may be interested in pursuing a trade for Cleveland Cavaliers big man Larry Nance:

"“A better but riskier path might be an all-in-one type arrangement, where they trade the 14th pick, Kanter and Poirier, and get back a legitimate frontcourt player in return,” Hollinger wrote. “The most obvious target for such a deal would be Cleveland’s Larry Nance, who could play 4 and 5 for them and who makes $11.7 million, $10.7 million and $9.7 million over the next three seasons.”"

This rumor is juicy, and likely has legs for several reasons. First and foremost, the Cavaliers are a rebuilding team, so trading away vets for picks is exactly what they should be doing. Secondly, with Andre Drummond and Kevin Love in tow, Cleveland doesn’t have many minutes for Nance to see the floor.

In Boston, he’d enter a timeshare with Daniel Theis and Robert Williams, but he’d have a clear path to winning the starting role if his play dictates it. Imagining Nance thriving in an offense with fellow elite bouncers like Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum isn’t a stretch.

What this comes down to is what the Cs are willing to give up. Giving up the #14 pick might be a bit too steep of a price to pay, but swapping either of their late firsts would facilitate this deal getting done.

Verdict: Buy
