The Boston Celtics have been linked to three recent targets. The Houdini breaks down the likelihood of each player donning the green and white in 2020-21.

The offseason will have to wait–LeBron James refused to take the game-winning shot and instead Danny Green bricked away the Los Angeles Lakers’ chances of clinching the NBA Championship against the Miami Heat last night. For now, the Boston Celtics remain the winningest franchise in the history of the NBA.

That said, when one of Boston’s historical rivals Miami or Los Angeles finally wins the 2020 NBA Championship, the news won’t be dominated by the failures of James’ teammates or Jimmy Butler’s heroism.

Instead, we can all fantasize on who will be hoisting up the 2021 Larry O’Brien trophy in front of a capacity crowd with no masks or social distancing needed (that may be a pipe dream) when the Lakers and Heat finally leave the Lake Buena Vista bubble on Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports campus.

Around these parts, Beantown’s 18th championship banner is the priority. Thankfully, the Cs are not in search of the primary reasons why they would hypothetically get there–with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown having grown into fully-fledged playoff stars in their third and fourth seasons respectively.

What they will hopefully be doing this offseason is making the necessary moves around the edges to get them over the hump in the east. With three eliminations in the Eastern Conference finals the past four postseasons, it is clear the Cs are not quite there just yet.

Should any of these 3 recently rumored Boston Celtics targets end up in uniform to get them there? The Houdini investigates:
