If a star wanted to leave their team in the coming years, where would the Boston Celtics rank as a top trade destination across the association?

The NBA is a league predicated on superstar movement. The Boston Celtics have felt the positive and negative side effects of that, with trades/sign-and-trades for floor generals have defined the Brad Stevens years in Beantown.

That has included a minor move for Isaiah Thomas becoming a franchise-changing one, a point guard swap for Kyrie Irving ultimately proving to be toxic and depressing given Thomas’ inability to regain his Cs form, and has since culminated (for now) in Danny Ainge sign-and-trading for Kemba Walker.

Then again, Boston has also been known to avoid cashing in a swath of assets for a top-line star for Kawhi Leonard or Anthony Davis in recent years as well. Ainge has been very selective in giving up too many assets–perhaps due to his own sleuth-y actions in draining the Brooklyn Nets of half a decade of draft capital.

So that brings us to the current offseason…one in which the Cs are once again at that fork in the road. After bowing out of the Eastern Conference finals, it is clear they are not where they need to be given the likely improvements of the Eastern Conference.

Several other teams will likely have that same feeling as well. With no omnipresent superpower like the Golden State Warriors lording over the league, every team should feel that their current best could be better.

Take a look at where the Houdini believes the Boston Celtics rank as a trade destination:
