With a dearth of cap space this offseason, the Boston Celtics have very few options besides value spending. How would these 8 bargain free agents fit?

Bleacher Report’s Mandela Namaste recently broke down a list of the NBA’s 8 best bargain free agents this offseason and while it didn’t explicitly say anything about the Boston Celtics…you know where the Houdini’s mind goes.

All of the names Namaste listed could be had at the veteran’s minimum or a portion of the mid-level exception, making the Cs free agent players for all of them despite their lack of cap space. As he points out, it has been the play of role players on both the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers that have enabled them to be in the position they are today:

"As we re-learn every single year, star power is normally not enough to make a deep postseason run or win an NBA championship. You need to find undervalued role players and bet on them to outperform their contracts in order to build the best possible playoff-oriented roster. If Rajon Rondo, Dwight Howard and Markieff Morris don’t show up in major ways and if Duncan Robinson and Andre Iguodala fail to provide elite floor-spacing and perimeter defense, respectively, then neither the Los Angeles Lakers nor the Miami Heat would still be standing."

Unfortunately, as has been pointed out, the Boston Celtics are no longer still standing. Clearly, finding better fitting role players needs to be a top priority for the Cs front office.

So, with that in mind, the Houdini has decided to rank the fit of Namaste’s aforementioned bargain free agents, breaking them up into backcourt and frontcourt:
