Javonte Green

After having a preseason for the ages–including converting on his first 3-point attempts and becoming a nightly highlight with his surreal athleticism and ferocity at the rim–Javonte Green has fallen on hard times in the bubble.

While he had a fine final game against the Washington Wizards in the bubble seeding games finale, Green’s untimely injury that forced him to miss all but one postseason contest (where he knocked down a 3-pointer in two attempts in five minutes) may have sealed his fate in Beantown.

NBA Draft replacement: Josh Green

To be clear, just because these two players share a last name, doesn’t make them comparable in many ways besides position. While Javonte Green is undersized and possesses average height and wingspan, Josh Green is an athletic freak as noted Hardwood Houdini draft guru Mark Nilon pointed out a few months ago:

"Through 30 games — all were with him as a starter — the shooting guard posted averages of 12 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game on 42 percent shooting from the field and a respectable 36 percent shooting from deep. Green has the makings of an elite defender. Due to his freakish 6-10 wingspan he was able to guard numerous positions at the collegiate level and was able to lead his team in steals and was ranked sixth in the entire Pac-12 Conference. His stature (6-6, 210 pounds) is the picture perfect build for an NBA shooting guard, but he has the skill set and length to play three to four positions on the court, making Green a highly-valued asset."

The Arizona Wildcat would do well developing his game in the 10 minutes per contest Javonte Green played for the Boston Celtics in 2019-20.
