Goal No. 1) Extending Jayson Tatum’s contract

Jayson Tatum isn’t exactly going to make retaining his services a cheap cost, but no matter what figure he plays his way into, it is imperative that the Boston Celtics bring him back. This past season and postseason have both proven that he is the centerpiece of the team and any banner hanging in the rafters at the TD Garden will be primarily from his play.

Thus, bringing him back on a supermax contract should be about as simple as a formality as there can be. After bringing back Jaylen Brown on a four-year, $115 million agreement, Danny Ainge should be willing to throw Tatum the same deal at the very minimum.

That would be insulting to the former Duke Blue Devil. The Cs need to offer Tatum the absolute highest salary-cap figure they can to ensure that Tatum spends at least the next five years in green and white.

Now is not the time to pinch pennies with your superstar. The Charlotte Hornets lost Kemba Walker last summer to Boston because they weren’t willing to show him the money. Under no circumstances should the Cs be willing to risk doing irreparable damage to their relationship with their superstar.
