Boston Celtics rumors: Cs reluctant to deal Romeo Langford after rocky rookie year

The Boston Celtics don’t appear likely to part with their lone 2019 lottery pick Romeo Langford in the 2020 offseason.

If Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge is speaking truthfully about his 2019 lottery pick–and not just pumping him up to shed a positive light on him to make him more attractive to opposing general managers–then Romeo Langford is unlikely to be involved in any trades this offseason

Truthfully, this was not the rookie season Langford would have hoped for. Instead of developing into a key bench piece on a crowded bench devoid of many standouts, the Indiana product spent most of the season on the shelf, collecting new ailment after new ailment in the process.

Luckily for him, it appears that his general manager has not given up on him in spite of his shortcomings on the hardwood. Danny Ainge was complimentary when speaking about Langford in his season post-mortem press conference:

"“We started to get [Romeo Langford] back healthy,” Ainge noted of the team’s top pick in the 2019 draft. “And we really like him. He is a good player, and I know that nobody knows that yet in Boston. They haven’t seen him. The two games that we played against Miami that we won, we scored 56 points in the paint in the last three quarters and we scored 60 points in the paint in another one. That’s [Romeo’s] strength, scoring in the paint. He didn’t even get a chance to show much of that this year.”"

It was a rough go for Langford in his first go-round, but his flashes were noticed by one of the most important people in the Boston Celtics organization. If Ainge is to be believed, it sounds as though Langford will have plenty of opportunities to show fans what he can do.

Don’t expect him to be involved in any deals this offseason…but don’t expect the Cs to be quiet either.
