The actions of the past have sculpted what this offseason should look like for the Boston Celtics — pulling the trigger on a blockbuster trade.

For far too long, the Boston Celtics have hesitated to cash in on the megastar.

Fans could argue about the merits of the 2017 megadeal with the Cleveland Cavaliers that landed Kyrie Irving, but that wasn’t the kind of all-in gamble that would have justified accumulating so many assets from the Brooklyn Nets in 2013:

As CBSSports’ Sam Quinn points out, superstars that Danny Ainge passed on ended up winning championships — or, in Anthony Davis’ case, coming within two games of winning one at this current moment.

And granted, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been good enough to justify not trading them for two players in Davis and Leonard who didn’t have Boston on their shortlist of preferred destinations they’d sign long-term.

That said, Ainge can’t live with regrets anymore. The Celtics need to pounce on deals this offseason if they arrive. That includes flipping the expiring deal of Gordon Hayward, sending out smaller contracts like Enes Kanter and Daniel Theis, or even trying to upgrade the point guard position.

Who knows who could be out there this offseason? Clearly, Boston just needs a couple of adjustments around the edges. Tatum and Brown should be enough of a duo to build around.

What do you think Boston Celtics fans? Should Ainge pull the trigger on a big deal this offseason if given the chance?
