The NBA does not hand out mulligans — not since the  2011 CBA’s amnesty clause — but if they did, the Boston Celtics would likely want one on their No. 14 selection last year of Romeo Langford.

With the recent announcement of a disappointing end to a lost rookie season, Romeo Langford‘s first year as a member of the Boston Celtics has now officially taken on a bit of a “bust” overtone. The postseason could have been his redemption tale, but instead, he leaves without the likelihood of anyone noticing he was gone.

Langford scored a combined 10 points in the seven postseason contests he saw the floor in, with six of them coming in a 2-4 outing from the field in 22 minutes against the hapless Philadelphia 76ers in one of the league’s least suspenseful first-round series.

Against the Miami Heat, he had been as quiet as a mouse. In a minute and a half of game action, he had not taken a shot attempt from the field but was able to muster up an assist.

Now, his role will be replaced by the returning Javonte Green as the shot-less wing in garbage time.

It is unfortunate that the Cs never got a chance to assess what kind of asset they had in Langford in 2019-20. His stock has fallen considerably, and his standing as a potential long-term project makes him an odd fit on a Boston roster ready to contend.

With his stock fall, it is now easy to practice hindsight in who could have better fit this Boston Celtics roster back on the faithful night in which they drafted him.

Practicing hindsight will be today’s exercise as the Houdini looks at 3 players the Cs could, and perhaps should have picked instead of Romeo Langford:
