Boston Celtics: “Pass or Pursue” on 3 recently rumored targets
By Mark Nilon
Rumored target No. 1) Eric Gordon
First up on the docket we have the offensive spark plug off the bench for the Houston Rockets, Eric Gordon. Over his 12-year career in the NBA, the shooting guard has made a name for himself as one of the best sixth men the game has to offer, even winning the illustrious Sixth Man of the Year award back in 2016-17.
Throughout his tenure in the league, Gordon has proven to be a sensational offensive weapon who can score both inside and outside, on-ball and off-ball. Boasting career averages of 16.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game on 43 percent shooting from the floor and 37 percent shooting from deep, the veteran certainly has the numbers to back up this claim.
Being that the Boston Celtics certainly do need to upgrade their bench in terms of offensive firepower — ranked 29th in points per game, 28th in 3-point percentage, and 20th in offensive rating — one could certainly believe the idea of Gordon heading to Beantown could be an ideal scenario.
That said, considering his injury history (has played over 70 games just twice in his career), his age (will be 32 by the start of next season), and the lofty salary he’ll likely command, adding the offensive-minded guard might not be the best idea for this Cs team moving forward.
